Garmin Dakota
Garmin Dakota is a style of GPS device made by Garmin, a company built by entrepreneurs Gary Burrell and Dr. Min Kao back in 1989. It creates and sells portable navigation devices and GPS systems that can be used for communicating directions on the road, on wood trails, during sporting events, during air travel, and even on water ventures.
The Garmin Dakota is one of Garmin’s GPS (global positioning system) devices. The purpose of a GPS is to assist users in finding their way to their destinations. There are several classifications of Garmin GPS devices:
- On the road – these are the devices that provide detailed mapping and road directions for cars, trucks and motorcycles. There are about 70 kinds of products in this classification that you can choose from.
- On the Go – these are the portable GPS devices that you can use even if you are very mobile.
- On the trail – these are the GPS products that are specially made for trekking, hunting and geocaching which are also very portable and convenient to carry wherever you go.
- Into Sports – whether you are into running, cycling, or golfing, the Garmin products can suit your needs to track the calories that you lose while doing your favorite sports.
- On the water – these devices have waterproof features, chart plotters, sounders, fish finders, radars, and sensors for an accurate tracking of direction even under water.
- In the Air – these products come in applications or devices that track aviation routes for commercial and private flights as well as for air sports.
Garmin is not limited to GPS devices. They can also come in the form of applications for some smart phones. Garmin Dakota is classified as an on-the-trail device because it has portable structures and features for mobile navigation during outdoor activities like hiking, hunting, and fishing.
There are two models of Garmin Dakota, the Dakota 20 and Dakota 10. Here is a general comparison of the two products:
This is the first model made for the Garmin Dakota line. It was designed for extreme outdoor use, as it has waterproof, dust proof, dirt proof and bump proof features. The Garmin Dakota 10 comes with a 3 axis tilt compass and HotFix satellite software that allows you to download electronic information onto its internal memory, information like the location you’re heading to, the terrain specifications of the area and other important data from places all over the world.
Garmin Dakota 10 offers the latest technology and is enclosed in a touch screen compact device. It doesn’t only provide your navigational needs, but is also very easy to use.
The Garmin Dakota 20 is the improved version of Garmin Dakota. It is also a rugged touch screen portable navigator, but has added features like an electronic compass, barometric altimeter, micro SD card slot, and allows unit-to-unit transfer to other Garmin devices wirelessly.
The Garmin Dakota offers touch screen technology that is more visible to view even in direct sunlight. Its expanded memory capacity allows you to save more locations, routes and maps to your device.
The Garmin Dakota 10 and 20 models are compatible to Garmin Connect, enabling you with the ability to share information through an online community like Twitter and Facebook. These two portable models provide your needs either in water or on land navigation in an intelligent way.
